Area Police
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior representative said the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
