19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on court had caused observers to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
